Sandy City

Sandy City, UT is located approximately 13 miles south of Salt Lake City. It was settled in 1863 and was initially an agricultural community. The name Sandy came about because the local soil is very sandy and needed large quantities of water in order to grow crops. The city really began to grow when silver was discovered in nearby Little Cottonwood Canyon. Sandy became a supply station with numerous hotels, saloons and brothels. In the 1890's the mines began to run out of silver and the city returned to an agricultural community. The population grew slowly until the 1970's when there was a population explosion.

For more information on the city you can visit the Sandy City government website.
